Alvin Jay "Bus" Campbell, Jr., 90, of Carlisle, passed to eternal life on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Forest Park Health Center, Carlisle. He was born on February 12, 1927 in Kittanning, and was a son of the late Alvin J. Campbell, Sr. and Edith (Lease) Campbell. He was married to the late Pauline M. (Gerbac) Campbell, who passed away on August 14, 2005.
Bus was a U. S. Army veteran of the post WWII era. He earned his G.E.D. and was a third-generation employee of PPG Industries. He retired from the Carlisle plant after 45 years of service as a mechanic. Bus was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carlisle and a former member of the Mt. Holly Springs V.F.W. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, being outdoors and especially spending time with his family. Bus formerly operated a tree-cutting business.
He is survived by four sons; Alvin (wife, Janet) Campbell, III of Newville, Kevin (wife, Lynn) Campbell of Redfield, Iowa, Dreux Campbell of Westminster, MD and Shawn (wife, Susan) Campbell of York Springs, six grandchildren; Kasey Birbeck, Matthew Campbell, Damian Campbell, Lee Ann Campbell, Ashley Campbell-Nedimyer and Laurel Campbell, three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle, with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick New Catholic Cemetery, North Middleton Twp. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011. www.Since1853.com
