Alpheretta S. "Freddie" Highlands, 93, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Chapel Pointe, Carlisle. She was born on February 12, 1932, in Carlisle and was a daughter of the late John Albert Steele and Gail Elizabeth (Group) Berry. She was the widow of Major (Ret) Robert E. Highlands, Jr., US Army, who passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2018.
Freddie was a loving homemaker. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and making quilts, crochet, and loved doing her crafts. She enjoyed helping people and her community with her late husband through the Carlisle Lions Club, Cumberland County Historical Society, Molly Pitcher Stitchers, the Carlisle Elks Ladies Auxiliary and was a life member of North Middleton Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 39. She was of the Methodist faith.
She is survived by three sons, Rev. Robert E. Highlands, III and his wife Patti of Lacey, WA and their children, April (husband Raymond) Outlaw of Olympia, WA and children Liam and Rhys, Aaron and (wife Ellie) Highlands of Des Moines, WA, and Drew (wife Hattie) Highlands of Ballard, WA; and Russell E. Highlands and his wife Denise of Carlisle and their children Sara and Kevin; and Raymond E. Highlands and his wife, Lisa of Carlisle and their children, Sgt (Ret) Rodney Highlands of Newville and daughter Lila, and Laura (husband Dustin) Shotto of Carlisle and their children Michael and Diana; one daughter-in-law Theresa Highlands of Newville. She was preceded in death by one son, SSgt (Ret) Ronald E. Highlands, US Army, who passed away on July 20, 2011, one brother John Steele and one sister Gail Looney (Steele).
A viewing will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St, Carlisle. The burial will be in Waggoner's Church Cemetery, Carlisle. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carlisle Lions Club, P.O. Box 321, Carlisle, PA 17013. www.EwingBrothers.com.
