Albert L. Brown, 86, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. He was born on Friday, February 20, 1925, in Sunbury, a son of the late Albert O. and Marie (Spotts) Brown. He was married to the late Dorothy V. (Pasco) Brown, who died May 11, 2005.
He was a 1943 graduate of Sunbury High School and earned a Bachelor and Master degrees in education from Bloomsburg and Shippensburg Universities. Albert also held a Principal's certificate. He retired after more than 30 years of service with Carlisle Area School District, where he taught business courses at Carlisle Senior High School, was a former Chairman of the Business Department and also served as Vice- Principal. Albert also taught courses at Central PA Business School for several years and served as Principal for one year at Big Spring High School. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Carlisle and enjoyed watching sports, reading and Penn State football.
He is survived by one daughter, Cathy Lee Brown of Carlisle, with whom he lived, one son, Retired US Navy Captain Mark A. (and his wife, Gail) Brown, of Westerville, Ohio, three brothers; Jack Brown of Sunbury, Francis Brown of Reading and Mick Brown of Bartow, Florida, one sister, Carol Strickland of Sunbury, two grandson; Andrew and Matthew Brown and several nieces and nephews. Albert was preceded in death by two brothers; George and Robert Brown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Dr., Carlisle. Rev. Dwight D. Schlaline will officiate. Burial will be private in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, North Middleton Twp. Viewing will be Friday from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with a Prayer service at 8:15 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 152 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
