Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Adrian Delano Barnes was welcomed home eternally on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the age of 76. He was born on January 9, 1950, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to Phyllis Profater Barnes and Howard S. Barnes Sr.

He graduated from Carlisle Senior High School in 1968 and, following the path his two older brothers had taken, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps soon after. He served his country during the Vietnam War as a combat engineer.

When his military service ended, Adrian settled in Washington, DC, and joined the Metropolitan Police Department. He served there with distinction for more than two decades, rising to the rank of Inspector before retiring in 1997. Never one to sit still, he began a second career and built a home improvement business of his own, taking pride in the quality of his work until he retired for good.

Those who knew Adrian will remember his strong personality and commanding presence, carried the same way on the police force as in everyday life. Above all, he was a man who helped people, in uniform and out of it.

Adrian is survived by his son, Ryan C. Barnes, a United States Marine who followed his father into the Corps; his daughter-in-law, Andrea E. Barnes; his grandson, Marcus E. Barnes of Alexandria, VA; his sisters, Jacqueline A. Barnes Wade of Odenton, MD, and Victoria E. Barnes of Washington, DC; his brother, Calvin E. Barnes of Carlisle, PA; his godsons, Darryl and Adrian; his goddaughter, Shania Profater; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Adrian was preceded in death by his parents, Phyllis Profater Barnes and Howard S. Barnes Sr., and his brothers, Lonnie S. Barnes, Dwight B. Barnes, Darryl T. Barnes, and Howard S. Barnes Jr.

A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 21, 2026, followed by the Homegoing Service at 11:00 a.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA 17013. Pastor Duane Coleman will be the officiant. Burial with military honors by Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.  www.EwingBrothers.com
